This children’s story book tells about a typical life of a Filipino family. Where in one of the parents or sometimes even both of the parents go overseas to work for their families that they leave here in the Philippines, because it is really hard to get an employment here now days.  But those working overseas send the money that they have earned, and sometimes they even send us gifts.

That is what the story of Ang mga Kahon ni Kalon is all about. His father works here in the Philippines as a stevedore, but got an opportunity to go to Dubai and work there. So every time his father would send him gifts in a box and Kalon would describe everything as a box, for example the refrigerator that his father sent them, he referred to as a rectangular box that is very cold and can keep food. And for many months his father would send him boxes of different types. But one day a terrible thing happened, his father had an accident.

The author Michael M. Coroza said that he wrote this book because he was also inspired by the memory of his late mother. He said it is also a way for him to free himself from the “box” or conventions in writing poetry, this book he wrote is not only for children but for all ages, because I think his purpose for writing this is, for every Filipino to know what hardships our parents go through for them to satisfy our everyday needs. The book shows realities in the typical life of a Filipino family.  think \\\he really achieved what he wanted and you can truly learn a lot from this 32 page book. It might be for children but even the elders can learn something.

I think this story book is one of the best because it really shows the reality of life around Filipinos and it teaches children to give value in what they have and just be contented, and be proud of what they have and be proud of their parents who work overseas, because each parent is a hero. And it also tells us that we should enjoy the little things we have in life.

Even though at the ending it was quite sad, but I can say that it was just the reality of life. It will teach us how we can cope up with life even after tragic happenings

I will surely recommend this book to others because it can really give an impact to others life and you can really get to learn things from this children’s book.  It is a very good book good for both children and elders.
