Lampara Books offers “Kwentong Nanay”, a series book wherein it contains different stories of one of the most special creation of God, a mother. It aims to remind us the great and heroic things that a mother can do for their children.

There is no day or hour when Nicole is not with her mommy. Ever since she can remember, it was always two of them together, everywhere.”

Her Mommy was fat. She is not sexy as the mommies of Nicole's  classmates that’s why they tease her mommy. She became uneasy and miserable. What would Nicole do to make her mommy become sexy and avoid the uneasy feeling?

“I wish my mommy would become sexy. I wish she weren't fat” As she wish upon the star. Here is a line from the book that struck me the most because we all wanted and imagining having a perfect parent with no worries and problem. But, in this world nobody is perfect. We must accept what God has given us, and be thankful with it because it is a blessing from above. Also, we should learn to respect others especially with regards to their physical attribute.

Nicole: A girl who loves her mommy very much, but when her classmate teases her mommy, she started to feel uneasy and embarrassed being with her mommy.

The illustration and artwork was great because even without the lines or the story itself you can distinguish and determine what the story is all about.  For me, the book needs better execution to the story itself because Nicole is not the only character in the story; the mommy should also have dialogues so that it will be more realistic because of the mother and daughter conversations, that everyone could relate with.

The book wants to tell us that we should be contented of what we have. Our mother is the one who brought us to life, and in return we should acknowledge their efforts in molding us to be a good person, because no mother wants her children to take the wrong path and accept and be happy who your mother is because she’s the one who carry you for 9 months, take care of you and being there for you along the way.

I highly recommend this book, because everyone may relate and reflect on it.

Many words, scenes and crazy things run to my mind. I have difficulty in explaining things that sometimes others don’t understand. I express through dancing, music and drawing the things that which cannot be said. Louise Ann F. Tandoc is the name, freshmen, taking up BS Child Development and Education in Miriam College.
